    All sessions will be outside, rain or shine with Thursday's at Fredericton High Track, starting July 8th at 6:00 pm.

    Spring /Summer 2010

    All Summer Programs 2010 Summer Track and Field Program for Kids 8 to 14 Once again this summer, the Fredericton Legion Track Club will be offering its Ready for Hershey Track and Field program every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. from May to early August. The program will start at the Nashwaaksis Middle School outdoor track on Thursday, May 6th, at 6 p.m. The training program has been especially designed for young athletes ages 8 to 14, and is based on Athletics Canada’s Run, Jump, and Throw program. During each two-hour training session, certified coaches will introduce participants to various track and field events, and help them prepare for the upcoming 2010 Hershey series of outdoor track and field meets. Training will also be of benefit to young athletes wanting to compete in their school track and field meets. On Thursday, July 8th, training will move to Fredericton Hish School Track

    We welcome new athletes to come out to see if they like the activity, if so the Athletes can register for the program by simply showing up at the Fredericton High Track for any of the Thursday training sessions and paying the program fee of $70 (membership to Athletics New Brunswick for 2010 included).

    About the Fredericton Legion Track Club

    The Fredericton Legion Track Club provides athletes of all ages and all levels an opportunity to develop their talents to the fullest. Running, jumping and throwing form the basis of athletics just as they do most other sports. Training for athletics includes improving your physical conditioning in areas such as flexibility, strength, power, speed, and endurance.

    The Fredericton Legion Track Club is active year round. Training for all events of track and field is supervised by certified and experienced coaches. Training programs are adapted to the needs of each athlete. We have special training sessions for young athletes interested in participating to the Hershey series of meets.

    Athletes of the Fredericton Legion Track Club have represented the province on many occasions at national competitions. Several athletes have provincial records and have been to international meets. The Club travels to athletics competitions such as the Hershey and the Canadian Legion series, Aileen Meagher at Halifax, the Québec Championship meets each year as well as participating in meets throughout the province and Maine.

    Programs -- Indoor Track, Outdoor Track, & Cross Country

    Ready for Hersheys (Ages 9-14)

    This program introduces young athletes to track and field and includes running, jumping, and throwing instruction. Athletes are also taught basic track and field training principles. Training is tailored to the age level of participants with an emphasis on fun. The focus of the training is on events included in the Hershey series of meets that take place in June and July each year. The program runs at a local outdoor track in Fredericton each Thursday from May through the end of July. Beginners and experienced athletes are welcome.   The program teaches the basics of training principles, as well as specific instruction in all track & field events. 

    Athlete Program (Ages 15-Older)

    This program provide athletes 15 years and older with the technical support they need to attain their training objectives whether they are to attain an elite performance level in specific track and field events, or simply to improve their fitness for other sports. The coaching staff provides each athlete in this program with a unique, detailed seasonal and annual training plan. All physical aspects of performance are trained including flexibility, aerobic capacity, anaerobic capacity, speed, power, and strength. Athletes are also given coached in event-specific technical skills, mental preparation, and nutrition. Competitive track and field athletes in this program usually focus on a few events and are regular participants in competitions at the provincial, regional and national level. Athletes registered in this program have the opportunity to train up to three times each week with the club, primarily at Base Gagetown, but also at other locations in Fredericton depending on the season. They may also do further training on their own under the guidance of club coaches.

    Youth Program(Ages 9-14)
    This program introduces young athletes to most track and field events. It also provides complete physical training for athletes including flexibility, strength, power, speed, aerobic capacity and balance. The FLTC strongly encourages athletes in this age group to compete in a variety of running, throwing and jumping events. Emphasis is placed on achieving personal best performances in chosen events, rather than overall placement. Athletes registered in this program have the opportunity to train up to three times each week with the club, primarily at Base Gagetown, but also at other locations in Fredericton depending on the season.

    Parent-Fit Program (Parents)

    The Parent-Fit program provides parents with the opportunity to work out during club training sessions. Parents registered in the program may use the same training facilities as the FLTC to improve their general fitness, or train for track and field or other competitive running events. Club coaches are willing to provide advice and workout suggestions on request.  The program is available to parents of all fitness levels, and sure beats sitting on the sidelines passively waiting for your young athlete to finish their training session.  .
